When we designed the report layout for BrightChecker’s AI-generated reports, we started outside BrightChecker. We used a third-party generative AI tool to create the visual artwork for the cover and back page. We then brought those designs into BrightChecker’s report layout and graphics tools, where we could add the report information, branding and other elements and position everything exactly where we wanted it.

That distinction matters. The generative AI created the visual starting point. BrightChecker turned that starting point into a professional, reusable report layout.

And what we did for our AI-generated reports, you can do with any BrightChecker report layout.

Start with the visual

We wanted our AI-generated reports to have a distinctive cover and back page rather than simply using a standard template.

So we started with a commercial generative AI tool.

For this example, we used Copilot to create the artwork.

The prompt we used

One useful tip: if you already have established brand colours, give the AI their Hex references.

For example:

[INSERT BRAND COLOURS / HEX REFERENCES HERE]

This gives the image generator a much better starting point for producing artwork that works with your existing visual identity.

The aim isn’t to get the AI to create the finished report cover.

It’s to create a visual that you can use as the starting point for the cover design.

Bring the artwork into BrightChecker

Once we had the visual we wanted, we brought it into BrightChecker’s report layout.

This is where the process changes from generating an image to designing a report.

The AI-generated artwork becomes part of the background, and BrightChecker’s graphics and layout tools let us build the report cover around it.

We can add company logos, professional body logos and memberships, company details, surveyor or inspector information, template name and survey type, report title, client and property information, inspection and report dates, report references, contact details, images, text and other graphic elements.

And we can position those elements wherever we choose.

There is no requirement to fit everything into a predefined cover design.

The cover and back page become part of the report

This is important.

The cover and back page aren’t simply images added to a report after it has been generated.

They are part of the BrightChecker report layout.

Once the layout has been created, it becomes the starting point for reports generated from that template.

So when the report is generated, the cover and back page are already there.

The information captured during the inspection can then be presented within the wider report layout.

The proof is in the AI templates

This isn’t just something we created as a demonstration.

The AI-generated templates that come with BrightChecker already use this approach.

We created their cover and back-page designs using the process described above: a third-party generative AI tool provided the visual starting point, and BrightChecker’s graphics and layout tools were used to create the finished design.

When you generate a report using one of those AI templates, that cover and back page are part of the report you get.

And because the layout is editable, you can change it.

You’re not locked into the original design

The AI-generated design is a starting point, not a restriction.

You can change the logo.

Move the company information.

Add professional memberships.

Change the surveyor details.

Change the template name.

Move the report title.

Replace the background image.

Add or remove graphics.

Change the layout completely.

The same BrightChecker tools that created the original design remain available to you.

The layout is yours.

And this isn’t limited to AI-generated reports

We used this approach when designing the layouts for our AI-generated reports.

But there is nothing about the process that makes it specific to AI.

You could start with:

  • an AI-generated image
  • your own photography
  • commissioned artwork
  • existing company artwork
  • a photograph of a property
  • an illustration
  • or no background image at all

The principle is the same.

Create the visual starting point you want, bring it into BrightChecker, and build your report layout around it.

That layout can then be used repeatedly whenever you generate a report from the template.

AI creates the starting point. You create the report.

There is a temptation to ask AI to do everything.

We didn’t.

We used generative AI for something it does particularly well: creating a visual starting point.

We then used BrightChecker for something that requires control and repeatability: turning that visual into a professional report layout.

That gives you the best of both approaches.
